A walk in the dark – a royal poem

The breath taken princess
was forces into her nightgown
soft and silk and name tag
She was sent off to bed
when the sun went down
her bed was freshly made up
but remained untouched
Her feet were bare, her hands
were stronger than they looked
and her mind was full of day
no one saw her climb down the palace walls
so she hurried onto the streets
left behind her guards and gardens
successful in her fleet

As the darkness just grew larger
the princess walked alone
she wished to catch the sunrise
before it got too bright
as nighttime swallowed her city
it devoured her street as well

A princess without direction
no light to see, to tell, she fell
but kept on waiting, walking
no sunrise
earth stood still.
